These heirloom pieces are created by the following steps:
- "Throwing"; forming the clay on the spinning potter's wheel.
- "Turning the foot"; turning the thrown pot upside down on the wheel and carving it with a tool, then polishing it with a stainless steel spoon, then applying an iron oxide wash to the center, incising the Fox Hollow Fox Head, the artist's signature, and the amount of clay used to "throw" the piece.
- "Pulling" handles and affixing them. Each handle is sturdily and carefully affixed to the pot and smoothed so that it seems to "grow" from the pot. Each handle has the fox head button attached to it for the patron's comfort and to enable its' perfect balance.
- "Bisque Firing"; putting in an oven called a kiln and firing to cone 06(1,873 F) for eight hours.
- "Glazing"; The "foot"(the bottom of the pot) is coated with hot wax. The pot is then dipped in a dark blue glaze then placed on the spinning potter's wheel and sprayed with a green glaze(Technique for our teal glaze.
- "Glaze or ghost firing"; The pot is fired to cone 10/11(2,250 F) for twelve hours and cooled for 24 before removing from the kiln.
