Chinese Red Glaze

These finely crafted heirlooms are glazed with a recently translated ancient Chinese Red Glaze. The coloring ranges from persimmon to black, and sometimes to characterized by crystallizations. These effects are always different to a greater or lesser degree, depending on the path of the flames and the atmosphere in the kiln. The pieces with the creamy tops have been rim-dipped in another, lower firing rutile glaze.

After glazing the pieces are then fired in a gas reduction kiln to a temperature of 2,250 degrees fahrenheit.
